Job Title:        Draycote Fishery Ranger

 

Position:        Full Time

 

Location:        Draycote Water, CV23 8AB

 

Reports to:     Fishery Management (UK) Ltd, Draycote Fishery Management

 

You will be primarily based at Draycote water fishery, a popular Midlands reservoir offering fly fishing for rainbow and brown trout with the fishing season 4th March to 30th November.

 

You will be joining a team of permanent and part time staff based at the various fisheries under the Management of Fishery Management (UK) Ltd. You will be required to be smart and presentable at work; the Company will provide work clothing. You will also be expected to communicate and offer fishing advice in a knowledgeable and helpful way.

 

You will be working to a monthly rota working any 5 days out of 7, including weekends which will include, split shifts. As is the nature of the fishing season, you will be expected to work 40 weeks averaging 43.55 hours during March to November, working 12 weeks averaging 21.5 hours per week during the period December to February. Salary will be paid by 12 equal monthly amounts. Some overtime may be required by mutual consent.

 

Holiday entitlement 28 days with 7 days allowed during period March to November

 

You may, on occasion, be required to cover at our other venues; travel allowance at a pre-agreed level will be included.

 

Draycote is a popular visitor’s attraction operated by our Landlord Severn Trent Water. There is also a popular and busy sailing club; you will be expected to build up a good working relationship with the various other stakeholders who use the reservoir.

 

The position will include some lone working and when required, responsibility for securing the site at the end of the day.

Location-                   Draycote Water, Rugby, CV23 8AB

 

Hours-                        2000 hour per annum – pay scale £8.00 – £9.50 p/h

Peak months; March to November – 40 weeks average 43.5 hours per week

Off Peak months; December to February – 12 weeks average of 21.5 hours per week

 

Responsible to –      Fishery Manager

Key Activities-

           To ensure that Customers have an enjoyable and safe experience when using our facilities.

           To manage Staff in a constructive and professional manner.

           To ensure that our facilities are safe and comply with the Company’s legal obligations in respect of Health and Safety, Trading Standards, Environmental and all other relevant legislation.

           To comply with our obligations to the site’s landlord, Severn Trent Water.

           To build constructive working relationships with other site users, such as the Sailing Club & restaurant.

Specific Requirements-

1.         Conduct regular tours of the reservoir to ensure that Anglers are safe, and have the necessary Day Ticket, EA Licence. This also includes building a strong rapport with Anglers and offering guidance and advice to ensure that they get the most enjoyment possible from their visit.

 

2.         Ensure that Draycote  fleet of boats (currently 32) along with the pontoon and other boat facilities; such as life jackets, safety boat and outboard motors; are checked on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, to ensure that they are maintained to the highest standard and comply with all relevant Health and Safety requirements.

This includes taking responsibility for the completion of all relevant safety and maintenance records following each inspection.

 

3.         Manage our team of part time boat staff. This includes rotating shifts, allocating duties, managing performance, conducting induction / Health and Safety training, issuing relevant employment documents such as Employment Contracts, time sheets and weekly pay slips, and ensuring that they are working in a constructive manner to help our Customers.

4.         Checking and accepting delivery of goods to the tackle shop.

5.         Selling day tickets to Anglers in the Tackle Shop / Lodge. 

6.         Using the tackle shop computer to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained in the shop.

7.         Ensure that stock is displayed in the tackle shop to maximise sales.

8.         Conduct / participate in meetings with other site users, such as the Sailing Club, and to help build constructive relationships with them.

9.         Carry out general site maintenance and repairs. If necessary, to liaise with the Company’s Management to arrange for external contractors to carry out necessary maintenance / improvement work.

10.       Conduct monthly Health and Safety checks for the shop, electrical equipment and vehicles. To ensure that up to date Risk Assessments, PAT tests, COSHH assessments, and vehicle maintenance are conducted for the site.

11.       To travel to Foremark when required, to provide additional cover for the Company’s Management.

12.       Locking up and securing the site at closing time.

13.       Ensuring the site is secure and to prevent theft / poaching of stock.

14.       To carry out other reasonable activities as and when required to ensure the smooth running of FM(UK) Ltd’s facilities.

 

Essential Requirements of the Post Holder- 

1.         Two or more years experience of working at a trout fishery.

2.         Good knowledge of boat and outboard motor maintenance 

3.         Good record keeping.

4.         Ability to use the Company’s computers effectively.

5.         Good Management skills, including the ability to demonstrate positive and constructive communication skills.

6.         Experience of working with the public in a leisure / retail environment.

7.         Health and Safety knowledge relevant to Fishery Management.

8.         Experience in managing Stillwater competitions.

9.       Driving Licence

Desirable-

1.         Qualified Angling Instructor
